Tehran, May 31 (). Iran and Turkmenistan have signed five documents to enhance cooperation in various fields.
Official news agency IRNA reported that the documents were signed in Tehran in the presence of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and Chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
They will focus on cooperation in the fields of transportation, construction of international corridors, exchange of energy and electricity, agriculture, education and investment, Xinhua news agency reported, citing IRNA report.
Addressing a press conference after the signing ceremony, Raisi said that the signing of these documents reflected the determination and desire of the two countries to expand bilateral political, economic and cultural ties.
Raisi called for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the water, power and transport sectors and promoting exchange of technical and engineering services in the agriculture sector.
Iran and Turkmenistan have also decided to enhance cooperation in regional and intra-regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, he said.
Berdimuhamedov said that friendly and fraternal relations between Iran and Turkmenistan are centuries old, and Turkmenistan will work to enhance such relations.
Also on Tuesday, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Ovji said Iran would soon sign a contract with Turkmenistan to import 10 million cubic meters of gas per day, starting before June 21.
Berdimuhamedov arrived in Iran on Tuesday, leading a high-ranking delegation. He also met the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bakr Kalibaf.
