Jaipur, April 26 (). The agitators blocked the Jaipur-Agra National Highway-21 for the sixth consecutive day on Wednesday demanding 12 per cent reservation for Mali, Kushwaha and Maurya Samaj.
The protesters are demanding 12 per cent reservation along with compensation for Mohan Singh, who committed suicide.
On Tuesday, the convenor of Phule Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti, Murari Lal Saini, reached Arora village and shared the points of talks held with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot at his residence with the agitators.
Though Saini said the government has started work on reservation, the agitators demanded a compensation of Rs one crore to the family of Singh, who committed suicide on Tuesday.
He also demanded to give a government job to a member of the family.
The agitators said they would not vacate the highway until the government announced compensation.
On Tuesday, agitator Mohan Singh (48) committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree on the side of the highway in Chah village near Arora.
Now people are demanding that till one crore rupees are not given to Mohan Singh’s family, they will continue to block the highway.
The body has been kept in the mortuary of Rai Bahadur Memorial (RBM) Hospital in Bharatpur.
Internet services remained closed till 12 noon on 26 April due to the agitation.
Regarding this issue, Nadbai MLA Joginder Singh Awana reached the protest site on Wednesday and provided financial help to Singh’s son by giving Rs 2 lakh.
The highway is jammed since the night of 21 April.
Officials said, the government has started working on the matter of 12 per cent reservation. Reservation will be given to the people of the society only on the basis of the census of the people of the society.
