In the opening round of the NSL Luxe presents Telangana Golconda Masters 2025, a tournament with a prize pool of INR 1 crore held at the Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA), Bangladesh’s Jamal Hossain delivered an impressive performance, posting a nine-under 61 to take a one-shot lead. Chandigarh golfer Akshay Sharma also showcased his skills with an impressive eight-under 62, placing him in second position. Despite heavy rain the night before, the weather was clear on Tuesday, although clouds lingered. Jamal excelled with his tee shots and wedge play throughout his round, achieving five birdies on the front nine, aided by a bunker chip-in and precise wedge shots.
He secured four additional birdies on the back nine, including two 12-foot conversions on the final holes. The 40-year-old Jamal, currently ranked 14th on the PGTI Order of Merit with two runner-up finishes this season, remarked, “I was just very consistent with my hitting and chipping today.” Akshay Sharma’s remarkable round of 62 included two birdie chip-ins, along with seven birdies on the back nine and three more birdies paired with two bogeys on the front nine. Tapendra Ghai from Gurugram finished third with a score of 64. Last week’s champion, N. Thangaraja from Sri Lanka, recorded a 65, tying for fourth place with seven others.
Vishesh Sharma, a professional from Hyderabad, shot a 68 to be ranked tied for 32nd, the highest among local players. Delhi’s Arjun Prasad, who is second in the PGTI merit list, ended the day with a score of 69, placing him tied for 42nd.
