Srinagar, 30 April (). Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) President Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday said that the time has come for assembly elections to be held in Jammu and Kashmir and it is undemocratic to deprive the people of an elected government for a long time.
The former Union minister said the DPAP is a party that believes in democratic values and will ensure that pro-people initiatives are launched for the benefit of people from weaker sections of the society if voted to power.
Addressing a public meeting in Bandipora, he said, “If DPAP comes to power, we will ensure that free electricity and other benefits are given to the poor so that their budget is not burdened.” We will also work to create economic opportunities in various sectors including tourism, agriculture and horticulture so that the common people are financially strong.
Azad said that when he was the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, he gave district status to Bandipora, opened hospitals, colleges and built a long network of roads to benefit the people.
However, he said that a long time has passed since then and the development in the district has now come to a standstill and the increasing infrastructural needs of the district have been neglected by successive governments.
Azad said that like others, he would not make false promises and keep people in the dark.
He said, I will make promises and fulfill them, whereas most politicians come to meet you and make many promises which they do not fulfill.
