Jindal Stainless Provides Steel for Bengaluru Metro Phase 2

Jindal Stainless, a leading stainless steel manufacturer in India, has supplied premium 301N austenitic stainless steel for the Bengaluru Metro Phase 2 project, marking a significant contribution to the country’s urban transport infrastructure. The yellow line of this project was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Earlier this August, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) launched three trainsets from the CRRC–Titagarh Consortium as part of the Phase 2 metro expansion. This order encompasses 53 trainsets, highlighting the project’s importance for Bengaluru’s expanding metro network. To date, Jindal Stainless has supplied 1,031 metric tonnes of 301N stainless steel, with additional deliveries planned as the project progresses.

The supplied material is valued for its high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent corrosion resistance, superior fire and crash resistance, and low carbon footprint, and has been utilized across operational metro coaches, including roofs and structural components. Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, commented on this development, stating: “We are proud to support the modernization of India’s metro infrastructure, which is vital for enhancing urban mobility and aligns with the nation’s vision for resilient and sustainable transport systems. The use of 301N austenitic stainless steel, a safer and more sustainable material, supports the sustainability objectives of modern rail transport.

By supplying to the Bengaluru metro, we reaffirm our commitment to building safer, durable, and sustainable metro networks.” Jindal Stainless has been involved in metro projects worldwide, including supplying stainless steel through Alstom India for metro systems in Queensland, Melbourne, and Sydney, as well as for nearly every metro project in India. The company has provided stainless steel for numerous prestigious Indian railway initiatives, including the Vande Bharat sleeper train, Vande Metro, Kolkata’s underwater metro, the first trainset of India’s Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), and the Mumbai metro, among others. Jindal Stainless has been supplying stainless steel to the Indian Railways since 1998 for wagons, coaches, and infrastructure.
