Bengaluru, April 21 (). For the May 10 assembly elections in Karnataka, the returning officer on Friday declared Congress President D.K. Shivakumar’s nomination was accepted.
Officials have denied any foul play in the nomination filed by Shivakumar. The Congress president feared that the BJP was plotting to oust him from the electoral fray.
Shivkumar is in the race for the post of Chief Minister. The fear of rejection of nomination papers had troubled him. Suspecting that the authorities would reject his nomination, he contested the Kanakapura seat from his brother D.K. Suresh’s nomination papers were also filled.
Earlier in the morning, Shivakumar told reporters that 5,000 people have downloaded their asset declaration forms. Anyone including BJP can conspire against him. He said, I know what they are doing. Against this background my brother D.K. Another nomination has been filed through Suresh.
Talking to reporters, he said, “We have our own strategy.. Why can’t he (DK Suresh) file nomination?” We will have our own political calculations. We cannot lift the veil from our secret. We also know how to do politics. My Property Documents have been downloaded by 5,000 people. There is a conspiracy of BJP behind this.
Shivakumar has declared assets worth over Rs 1,414 crore in the election nomination papers. The description of the property is given in more than 108 pages. Shivakumar alone owns over Rs 1,214 crore. According to the affidavit, his wife Usha Shivakumar has assets worth Rs 133 crore and his son Akash has assets worth Rs 66 crore.
He said that he has immovable assets worth Rs 970 crore and movable assets worth Rs 244 crore. He has told that he has a debt of Rs 226 crore. His annual income is said to be Rs 14 crore. The turnover of the Shivkumar family increased from Rs 252 crore in 2013 to Rs 840 crore in 2018.
According to sources, Income Tax (I-T) officials had called Shivakumar for questioning four days back. The Income Tax officials had collected the details after Shivakumar filed his nomination from the Kanakapura seat. They had also come to Kanakapura town and collected information about Shivakumar’s property and other details.
Sources had earlier said that IT officials are focusing on Shivakumar’s property details and tax payment details for the last five years. Income Tax officials have found discrepancies in this regard. Sources said that the details submitted to the Income Tax Department and the details in the nomination papers were found to be different.
Amidst these developments, he had got his brother Suresh’s nomination papers filled. Shivakumar was planning to field his brother from the Padmanabhanagar seat, which is represented by BJP minister R.K. Ashoka was doing Ashok is also contesting against Shivakumar in Kanakapura constituency.
