Bengaluru, May 13 (). Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said that he is the son of the soil of Karnataka. His party won 136 out of 224 seats in the assembly election results announced on Saturday.
Addressing reporters at a press conference, Kharge said: If Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the Bhumiputra of Gujarat, I am the Bhumiputra of Karnataka.
Kharge had claimed in the last leg of the campaign that the people of Karnataka should help the Congress party retain its self-respect by bringing it to power.
Kharge said, I have gained momentum from the Mekedatu Padayatra. Wherever the Bharat Jodo Yatra has passed through, we have won all the seats. This is a big achievement of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
He described the victory as the result of a collective approach.
Kharge insisted that all the five guarantees have to be fulfilled in the first cabinet meeting.
This victory is the victory of the people of Karnataka, he said. Congress got a big majority after 35 years.
Kharge said, all this was possible because of the blessings of Sonia Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi did everything, but he will not take any credit. He lived and campaigned like a Kannadiga in the state.
Party’s Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala thanked the people of Karnataka for giving the Congress the required majority to form the government.
