LinkedIn Introduces New Verification Features to Enhance Trust in India

India’s job market is rapidly growing and increasingly digital. However, with expanding opportunities, there is also a rise in online job-related scams that leave candidates at risk of financial and emotional distress, particularly during uncertain times. Experts emphasize that vigilance, awareness, and reliable tools are key to protection. In response to this need, LinkedIn has seen a 2.4x increase in verification adoption in India over the past year, as professionals seek more assurance when connecting, applying, or hiring. To further enhance professional safety, LinkedIn has introduced new verification features aimed at securing online interactions: Expanded Company Page Verification is now accessible to more businesses, including small enterprises with a Paid Premium Page subscription.

Given that 85% of business buyers consider trust crucial in their business decisions, this expansion assists growing companies in forging stronger relationships with customers, prospects, and job seekers. Recruiter Workplace Verification mandates members who add or update recruiter job titles, such as ‘Recruiter’ or ‘Talent Acquisition Specialist’, to verify their workplace before including the title on their profile. This instills confidence in job seekers that they are interacting with genuine professionals and helps recruiters establish trust from the outset. Executive Job Title Verification requires senior roles, like Managing Directors and Vice Presidents, to undergo workplace verification to prevent leadership impersonation. These enhancements complement LinkedIn’s broader security initiatives: since 2023, verifications for identities, jobs, company pages, and recruiters have been implemented.

Globally, over 90 million professionals are verified on LinkedIn, enjoying benefits such as 60% more profile views, 30% more connection requests, and a 13% increase in InMails from recruiters during job searches. LinkedIn’s security infrastructure effectively blocks over 99% of identified fake accounts and scams before they can be reported. From July 1 to December 31, 2024, the platform blocked over 80.6 million fake accounts during registration. While technology is vital, awareness is equally essential.

Aditi Jha, Head of Legal & Public Policy at LinkedIn India, offers general safety tips for job seekers: never share bank details before onboarding, decline suspicious requests as legitimate employers won’t require downloading encrypted software or sending money, be cautious of roles that seem too good to be true, and keep account settings updated with recovery options and security features. LinkedIn also provides various tools to enhance safety during job searches: check for verified information on job postings, as a verification badge indicates confirmed details about the company or job poster. Enable message warnings to utilize LinkedIn’s automated detection of potentially harmful content.

Filter job searches to display only verified jobs, ensuring that only positions from companies with verified LinkedIn Pages and current job posters are shown. Set up a passkey to use device unlock features for account access, significantly improving security and login efficiency. Finally, activate two-step verification to reduce unauthorized access to accounts from unfamiliar devices.
