Young Man Jumps into Yamuna River During Video Call with Sister

A 21-year-old man leaped into the Yamuna river from a bridge in southeast Delhi while on a video call with his sister, as reported by officials on Monday. The incident took place around 11:20 pm on Sunday, following an argument between the victim, identified as Rithik, and his sister. According to police, a call was made to the Sunlight Colony Police Station by Suman, the victim’s sister, who stated that her brother had jumped into the river during their call. Police and a PCR van quickly arrived at the scene and discovered a motorcycle and a mobile phone left behind on the bridge.

Suman, who lives in Karol Bagh and is preparing for the Civil Services exam, also arrived to recount the events leading up to the incident. The authorities noted that Rithik had been residing with his sister for several months while searching for employment. He had reportedly been feeling depressed after a breakup with his girlfriend, as per Suman’s statement to the police. “During the video call on Sunday night, Rithik had a heated argument with his sister and, overwhelmed with frustration, jumped over the railing into the river,” an officer stated. Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Fire Department, and a group from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), were promptly deployed.

An NDRF motorboat commenced search operations within 20 minutes of the jump, and the rescue efforts continued throughout the night into Monday morning, but Rithik had yet to be located.
