Maruti Suzuki India Limited has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Transport Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu to establish 10 Automated Driving Test Tracks across the state. The locations selected for these tracks include Marthandam, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore (Central), Madurai (North), Tuticorin, Krishnagiri, Dindigul, Tiruvannamalai, Sivagangai, and Trichy (West). These sites were chosen based on the recommendations from the Transport Department, considering the high volume of driving licenses issued and their accessibility to nearby cities. The signing ceremony featured Thiru S.S. Sivasankar, the Hon’ble Minister for Transport and Electricity, along with Thiru Dheeraj Kumar, IAS, the Home Secretary. The agreement was signed by Tmt. R Gajalakshmi, IAS, the Transport and Road Safety Commissioner, and Mr.
Tarun Agarwal, Senior Vice President of CSR at Maruti Suzuki. The Automated Driving Test Tracks will employ advanced technologies including video analytics, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and Harnessing Automobiles for Safety (HAMS) to create a standardized and objective driving license testing environment. This system eliminates human intervention, enhances transparency, and complies with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules. Minister Sivasankar commended Maruti Suzuki for its commitment to road safety, stating, “I applaud car market leader Maruti Suzuki for its continued commitment to road safety through impactful initiatives across the country.
Our government is committed to improving road safety in Tamil Nadu, and this partnership with Maruti Suzuki to establish automated driving license test tracks is a significant step in that direction.” Mr. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki, expressed pride in collaborating with the Tamil Nadu Government, highlighting that automated driving license testing guarantees a thorough, transparent, and efficient evaluation of a driver’s skills and knowledge. Only those who are qualified and skilled will receive a driving license through this process, which Maruti Suzuki believes will lead to safer roads. Maruti Suzuki’s road safety initiatives are structured around the 5Es: Education, Evaluation, Enforcement, Engineering, and Emergency Care.
A key component of these efforts is the rollout of Automated Driving Test Tracks, with 45 ADTTs already established across India, including 17 in Uttar Pradesh, 14 in Delhi, 7 in Bihar, 4 in Uttarakhand, 2 in Haryana, and 1 in Jammu & Kashmir. In August 2025, the company also signed a MoA with the Rajasthan Government to create 21 ADTTs. With the addition of 10 tracks in Tamil Nadu, the total will reach 76 nationwide. Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki has developed 8 Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research and 23 Road Safety Knowledge Centres in partnership with various state governments to provide essential driving education.
The company also implements an Integrated Traffic Safety Management System with real-time monitoring to aid law enforcement and foster disciplined driving. For emergency care, Maruti Suzuki offers First Responder training to commercial drivers and other relevant stakeholders.
