New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a strong and celebratory speech on Thursday following the NDA’s significant victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, securing over 200 out of the state’s 243 seats. Speaking at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, Modi began with “Jai Chhati Maiya” and proclaimed that the people of Bihar had “bilkul garda uda diya,” a phrase that signifies a sweeping triumph. He further remarked that “kheer made of makhana will be cooked in every house in Bihar today,” referencing a cultural symbol of the region.
Modi interpreted the election results as a reaffirmation of the NDA’s governance model, stating: “Phir ek baar NDA sarkar.” He revisited his campaign focus on “Jungle Raj” and the gun culture represented by the katta—a theme he claimed the RJD seldom addressed, yet visibly troubled the Congress. “That kind of government will never return to Bihar,” he assured party workers. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Bihar electorate for granting the NDA its strongest mandate since 2010, recalling the launch of his campaign in the village associated with socialist figure Karpoori Thakur, which he framed as a symbolic connection between Bihar’s past and its future under NDA leadership.
In contrast to the opposition’s caste calculations, Modi introduced a new M-Y formula: not Muslims and Yadavs, but Mahila (women) and Youth. “Some parties attempted to divide Bihar using the old M-Y formula,” he stated. “Today, Bihar has presented a new definition—women and young voters. I want to thank both.” Analysts have noted high turnout among women and first-time voters as key factors contributing to the NDA’s success, which Modi emphasized to depict the results as a new political coalition beyond traditional caste divisions. Modi also expressed appreciation for the NDA’s allies—chief minister Nitish Kumar, BJP Bihar leadership, LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan, HAM(S) patron Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader Upendra Kushwaha.
“This is not merely the victory of the NDA but a triumph for India’s democracy,” he stated. The Prime Minister commended the Election Commission for overseeing a peaceful and efficient election characterized by record voter turnout. “Previously, voting in Naxal-affected regions concluded by 3pm,” he pointed out. “Today, we witnessed unprecedented participation with no need for a single repoll.” The NDA’s overwhelming performance solidifies its position in Bihar’s political arena and reinforces the BJP’s role within the alliance. For Modi, this event served as both a celebratory acknowledgment of electoral success and a strategic recalibration ahead of forthcoming national contests.
