The transport department in Muzaffarpur has intensified enforcement regarding BH series number plates, which are specifically designed for employees who frequently transfer between states. Under the new regulations, vehicle owners are now required to pay a total of 14 years’ road tax upfront, replacing the previous rule that permitted payment for only two years. This change comes as a result of the department’s findings that the former system led to considerable revenue losses for the government. According to the updated order, individuals who currently possess BH series plates and have only paid for two years must immediately settle the outstanding dues for the remaining 12 years.

District Transport Officer Kumar Satyendra Yadav confirmed that notices have been sent to those in default, warning that a penalty of Rs. 100 per day will be imposed if the dues are not paid within the specified timeframe. Officials noted that most of the 1,200 BH plate holders in Muzaffarpur have already adhered to the new regulations. The BH (Bharat) series registration is exclusively available to government employees and staff of companies operating in at least four states, whose roles require frequent relocations. Applicants must provide an employer’s certificate to verify their eligibility. Authorities have mandated thorough verification before issuing new BH series numbers to guarantee compliance with the updated guidelines.
