Pointing out that the state’s Panchayat and Rural Development Department has asked district magistrates to conduct a physical verification process to mark each person on the waiting list as eligible or not eligible, the official claimed that this ruling It will be the last chance for the party to loot public money before the Panchayat elections.
The official claimed that with panchayats completing the verification process, three possible scenarios can be envisaged.
The first is that a huge amount of cut money will be collected from the persons on the waiting list. In this process those who are actually eligible will be marked as not eligible. Second, his relatives, friends and allies in the Trinamool Congress leaders and workers will be benefitted. By unethically manipulating the documents they will be marked as eligible even if they do not fit the criteria for selection.
According to the official, the verification process will be a means of influencing voters ahead of the panchayat elections and seeking political loyalty in exchange for selection as a beneficiary.
He alleged that the flow of illegal income of Trinamool Congress leaders at the panchayat level has been dry for some time.
The official said, the Union Ministry of Rural Development has tightened the noose in the housing scheme and MNREGA. This is their last chance to loot before the tenure of the panchayats ends in August.
