OpenAI to Provide One Year of Free ChatGPT Go in India

In a significant effort to enhance its presence in India, OpenAI has introduced a limited-time offer that allows all users in the country to access ChatGPT Go for free for one year. Beginning on November 4, both new and existing subscribers can take advantage of the premium features of ChatGPT Go at no charge for an entire year. This initiative is part of OpenAI’s broader strategy to strengthen its engagement in one of the fastest-growing markets for AI tools.

Launched in August 2025 and priced at ₹399 per month, ChatGPT Go provides users with ten times the usage limits of the free version, along with advanced features such as improved response generation, image creation, file uploads, and enhanced memory for more personalized interactions. Although the free subscription is time-limited, an end date has not yet been specified. Users in India who register during this promotional period will automatically receive the complimentary one-year subscription. This announcement aligns with OpenAI’s upcoming DevDay Exchange developer conference set to take place in Bengaluru on November 4, where further initiatives aimed at local developers, creators, and businesses are expected to be revealed.

Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, commended the enthusiasm of Indian users for AI tools, stating, “Since the initial launch of ChatGPT Go in India a few months ago, the adoption and creativity we’ve observed from our users has been inspiring.” He expressed excitement about the potential achievements of users with the tools provided. India’s rapidly growing digital landscape makes it a crucial market for OpenAI, with over 700 million smartphone users and more than one billion internet subscribers, representing a significant opportunity for the company. OpenAI has also announced plans to establish its first office in New Delhi by year’s end, indicating a long-term commitment to the region.

CEO Sam Altman previously remarked that India has become OpenAI’s second-largest market after the United States, underscoring its increasing impact in the global AI sector.
