Kolkata, May 29 (). West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress President Mamata Banerjee may reach Patna a day before the meeting of all non-BJP parties called by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on June 12. Trinamool insiders gave this information.
Sources said that as per the schedule, Chief Minister Mamata may reach Patna on the evening of June 11, a day before the meeting of opposition parties. However, the reason for Mamata’s early arrival has not been explained and it has been clarified that there is no possibility of her having a separate meeting with any counterpart.
Recently when Nitish Kumar along with his deputy and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had gone to Kolkata to hold a meeting with Mamata Banerjee, Mamata had requested him to hold and host the meeting of the opposition Grand Alliance in Patna. Both agreed and finally announced a meeting on 12 June.
It is yet to be decided whether the CPI(M) will send any leader for the June 12 meeting or whether Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will attend it.
Meanwhile, Congress West Bengal President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has already said that Trinamool will remain an equal rival for his party in the state like BJP. He also raised doubts whether the BJP was trying to plant some Trojan horse within the opposition alliance.
Chowdhary’s concern has been echoed by senior CPI(M) leaders like party’s central committee member Sujan Chakraborty and party’s state member Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya.
Trinamool leaders like Rajya Sabha member Dr. Shantanu Sen, however, feel that the arguments of the CPI(M) and Congress leadership in West Bengal are completely insignificant as they have no relevance. He said, when the whole country recognizes Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the leader of the opposition, it does not matter what the leaders of the CPI(M) and the Congress in West Bengal say.
However, Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Shubhendu Adhikari said the Congress’s opposition to the Trinamool in the state was just a sham. He said, on one hand Adhir Ranjan is talking about opposing Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, while on the other hand Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi is the main defender of Trinamool Congress and West Bengal government in the Supreme Court.
