New Delhi, May 19 (). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday arrived in Hiroshima, Japan to attend the G7 summit where he will also hold bilateral talks with several world leaders.
Landed in Hiroshima to attend the G7 Summit, the Prime Minister said in a tweet. There will also be bilateral meetings with various world leaders.
He has also posted pictures of reaching Hiroshima.
Modi left on Friday on a six-day visit to Japan, Papua New Guinea and Australia to attend three major multilateral summits, including the G7.
While leaving for Hiroshima, the Prime Minister said in a statement, “I will leave for Hiroshima, Japan, to participate in the G7 Summit being chaired by Japan at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.”
He said it would be a pleasure to meet his Japanese counterpart again after his recent visit to India for the India-Japan Summit.
The Prime Minister said, my presence at this G7 Summit is particularly meaningful as India is chairing the G20 this year. I look forward to exchanging views with the G7 countries and other invited partners on the challenges facing the world and the need to collectively address them. I will also have bilateral meetings with some of the leaders attending the Hiroshima G7 Summit.
Modi said that from Japan he would travel to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
This will be my first visit, as well as the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Papua New Guinea, he said. I will jointly host the 3rd Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) on 22 May with James Marape, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea. I am grateful that all 14 Pacific Island Countries (PICs) have accepted the invitation to participate in this important Summit.
FIPIC was launched during my visit to Fiji in 2014, and I look forward to interacting with PIC leaders on issues that bring us together, such as climate change and sustainable development, capacity building and training, health and wellness, infrastructure and economic development.
In addition to FIPIC engagements, I look forward to my bilateral interactions with Governor General Sir Bob Dade of Papua New Guinea, Prime Minister Marape and some of the other PIC leaders attending the Summit.
Commenting on his visit to Australia, the Prime Minister said: I will be visiting Sydney, Australia at the invitation of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. I look forward to our bilateral meeting which will be an opportunity to take stock of our bilateral relations and to follow up on our first India-Australia Annual Summit held in New Delhi in March this year.
He will also interact with Australian CEOs and business leaders and interact with the Indian community at a special event in Sydney.
