President Murmu to speak at Odisha Assembly on November 27

Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu is set to address the opening day of the fifth session of the Odisha Assembly on November 27, as per an official notification released on Monday. The provisional calendar issued by the Assembly secretariat states that the winter session will run until December 31, with breaks for holidays and Sundays. No additional business is planned for November 27 following the President’s address. The calendar allocates 19 days for official business and five days for private members’ business, which includes Bills and Resolutions. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also oversees the Finance department, will present the first Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for 2025-26 on November 28.

Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, who previously indicated Murmu’s visit, mentioned that the State government had invited the President to address the Assembly, where she was once a member and a minister. Murmu, a native of Odisha, was elected to the Odisha Assembly from the Rairangpur segment twice, in 2000 and 2004, and served as a minister in the Naveen Patnaik ministry. She held the position of Minister of State (Independent charge) for the Commerce and Transport department from March 6, 2000, to August 6, 2002, and later managed the Fisheries and Animal Resources department from August 6, 2002, to May 16, 2004. Murmu was also honored with the Nilakantha S Award for being the best MLA in 2007.

In preparation for the President’s visit, the Odisha Legislative Assembly has commenced renovations, including repairs and repainting portions of the building.
