Chandigarh, May 19 (). Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday gave an ultimatum to encroachers on government land to vacate the land by May 31 or face action.
In a statement here, the chief minister said the government was committed to free the land from illegal encroachment. He said that during the tenure of successive governments in the state, the nobles illegally occupied the government land by violating the rules, which is unfair and undesirable.
Mann said that from the very first day of assuming office, his government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards illegal encroachments.
The Chief Minister said that it is a matter of great pride and satisfaction that the government has so far freed more than 9000 acres of government land from illegal encroachment.
He said that this momentum will continue further and every inch of government land under illegal occupation will be vacated at any cost.
Mann asked the encroachers to vacate the land occupied by them by May 31, else the government would get it freed by itself.
The Chief Minister said that a comprehensive anti-encroachment campaign would be launched by the government from June 1 to remove these encroachments. No one, no matter how affluent, will be spared during this campaign to be launched in the larger public interest.
