Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, known for his candid opinions, shared his admiration for Amitabh Bachchan and his reluctance to work with Shah Rukh Khan in an exclusive interview with The Hans India. Varma emphasized Bachchan’s unique ability to express depth without exaggerated facial movements, stating, “Amitabh Bachchan has a very immobile face, which is unusual for an actor. But the way his eyes, without moving, convey emotion along with his voice modulation is extraordinary. This gives him an intrinsic dignity, a rare poise and classiness.
To my knowledge, no other actor in India can achieve that.” He expressed that his fondness for Amitabh comes from the films he grew up watching, such as Deewar, Trishul, and Zanjeer, which resonated with his cinematic tastes. When discussing comparisons between Amitabh and Shah Rukh Khan as the last of the superstars, Varma acknowledged SRK’s charm but noted that their sensibilities do not align. “Shah Rukh has a very different style. His romantic films are not my type of cinema,” he remarked. Even though Shah Rukh has successfully ventured into action films like Jawan, RGV firmly stated that he does not foresee a collaboration. “No, no, no… I can’t,” he asserted.
“I don’t believe I can make a film with Shah Rukh Khan due to his image and what his fans expect. That’s not the type of cinema I am suited to produce.” On his upcoming projects, RGV is preparing for his next film titled Police Station Mein Bhoot, featuring Manoj Bajpayee, set to begin production in February 2026.
