Research intern killed by wild elephant in Tamil Nadu

Man escapes by a whisker in elephant attack in Kerala's Idukki

Chennai, May 17 (). A research intern at the Salim Ali Institute of Ornithology in Anakatti, Tamil Nadu, died after being trampled to death by a wild elephant. The incident took place when Vishal Shrimala from Rajasthan, who was on research duty, was passing through the forest area and accidentally came across the wild elephant, which turned violent and threw him in the air and then trampled him. The incident is of Tuesday night.

The injured were immediately taken to the next tribal hospital on the Kerala border, but were declared brought dead on arrival.

Srimala was an intern at the institute for a few months.

This is the third death due to elephant attack so far this year.

Locals are protesting against the Tamil Nadu Forest Department for not properly handling the issue of wild elephants entering farms and attacking people.
