Rolugunta Suri: A powerful rural narrative that resonates

Rolugunta Suri emerges as a gripping rural drama that delves into caste politics, revenge, and raw human feelings. Directed by Anil Kumar Palla and produced by Tapaswi Art Creations, the film features key performances from Nagarjuna Palla, Adyareddy, and Bhavana Neelap. Marketed as a true story, it aims to provide an unfiltered view of village life, largely achieving that goal. The plot is set in the village of Rolugunta and centers on Suri, a young man from a lower caste who returns home after serving time in prison. He is determined to restore his life and earns the villagers’ respect through honesty and hard work. Suri soon falls for Kamala, a kind village girl who shares his feelings.

However, tensions flare during a kabaddi match, leading to confrontations with the upper-caste village president and his gang led by Kashi. What starts as a minor dispute quickly evolves into brutal oppression driven by caste pride and ego. Suri’s family suffers continual humiliation, and in a tragic twist, the president’s men set fire to his parents. The remainder of the narrative investigates the truth behind this shocking event and Suri’s choice between seeking justice or revenge, unfolding through gripping twists that maintain audience engagement. Nagarjuna Palla delivers an exceptional performance as Suri, embodying a rural youth with striking authenticity. His expressions and delivery add significant emotional depth to the film.

Adyareddy convincingly portrays Kamala, particularly in emotional scenes, while Bhavana Neelap makes a notable impression despite limited screen time. Brahmananda Reddy effectively brings intensity to his antagonist role, capturing arrogance and menace. The supporting cast, including Satyanarayana, Ayusha, Jyothi, and Maharshi Ramana, enhances the narrative’s credibility. Director Anil Kumar Palla shines not only in storytelling but also in outstanding cinematography, creating an immersive rural ambiance. Subhash Anand’s music complements the film well, with the poignant song “Ninna.. Monna..” being a highlight. Sandeep Chakravarthy’s background score heightens critical moments, while Aavula Venkatesh’s editing maintains a good pace despite some slow sections. Authentic dialogues from Mohammed Sai, raw action choreography by Vasu, and detailed art direction by S.

Ramesh visually and emotionally enrich the film. Rolugunta Suri is a gritty, emotionally charged project that highlights the harsh realities of caste discrimination and rural power struggles. Even with its serious themes, the film remains captivating through its honest storytelling, powerful performances, and impactful scenes. While it has its flaws, it is a distinct and significant addition to Telugu cinema.
