Patna: Samrat Chaudhary was sworn in as deputy chief minister for the second time. He took the oath alongside chief minister Nitish Kumar at a prominent ceremony held at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, which was attended by thousands and showcased a strong display of support from the National Democratic Alliance. Chaudhary’s return to the position is viewed as an important political indication. The BJP’s choice to promote him again signals the party’s aim to emphasize leaders with organizational strength and a proactive political approach, especially as it seeks to solidify its hold in the state. His appointment also highlights his increasing prominence within the NDA, following his tenure as BJP state president, during which he reinforced the party’s grassroots presence.
In recent years, Samrat has become a pivotal figure in the BJP’s political scene in Bihar. His pointed criticism of the opposition and his vigorous campaigning made him a prominent representative of the BJP in the assembly elections. The swearing-in ceremony was also a manifestation of political unity and assurance, with Nitish Kumar, both deputy chief ministers, senior BJP and JD(U) officials, and central leadership members all sharing the stage. Before the ceremony, Samrat expressed his commitment to guiding Bihar towards “a new era of development” through collaborative efforts between the central and state governments, citing law and order, employment, education, and infrastructure as his primary focuses.
