Chennai, April 21 (). A second-year BTech student from Madhya Pradesh was found dead in his hostel room at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, police said on Friday.
The suspicious death is reportedly being termed as suicide and this is the fourth such incident in the last three months at the prestigious institute.
The incident came to light on Friday when the friends of the deceased student raised apprehensions of something untoward when the hostel room door was not opened. They informed the warden who contacted the Kotturpuram police station. On breaking the door, the police recovered the body and registered a case and sent it for postmortem.
Earlier this month, on April 2, a PhD student of IIT Madras committed suicide. West Bengal’s Sachin Kumar Jain committed suicide in his room in Tamil Nadu’s Velachery, following which students on the campus started protesting and demanded a probe into the matter.
