SVU Conducts Major Raid on Bihar Excise Superintendent for Corruption

Aurangabad: Following the conclusion of the Bihar Assembly elections, state investigative agencies have renewed their efforts against corruption. On Sunday, the Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) executed a significant raid targeting government officials suspected of exploiting their positions for personal advantage. The agency conducted searches at various properties associated with Aurangabad Excise Superintendent Anil Kumar Azad, who is alleged to have amassed illegal assets totaling Rs 1.58 crore during his tenure. Officials stated that the investigation into Azad had been ongoing for several months. The SVU initially gathered information suggesting that Azad had acquired property and wealth that could not be accounted for by his known income sources.

After verifying the information, a legal case was initiated against him under multiple sections, including disproportionate assets. Subsequently, the SVU obtained a search warrant from the court to proceed with the investigation. On Sunday, several teams from the SVU simultaneously searched Azad’s residences and offices across three districts — Aurangabad, Jehanabad, and Patna. Numerous documents related to land investments, bank passbooks, and other financial records were seized during the operation. Investigators indicated that these documents would be thoroughly analyzed to ascertain how the alleged illegal assets were obtained and whether they are connected to undisclosed income or corruption. The raids are ongoing, and further details may emerge as officials continue their searches at the identified sites.

Agency sources anticipate recovering additional evidence pertaining to properties, cash flow, and investments. The SVU is approaching this case with seriousness, as part of its broader initiative to address misconduct among government employees who exploit their roles for personal gain. Upon completion of the investigation, a comprehensive report is anticipated, and additional legal proceedings may ensue if the allegations are substantiated.
