Chennai, March 30 (). The Health Department of Tamil Nadu is on high alert following the increase in the number of new Covid cases in the state. The state reported 112 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the total number of active cases to 689.
One passenger from Singapore and the other from Sri Lanka tested positive. This comes after the Covid test being done at the Chennai International Airport.
Speaking to , a senior health department official said, “Earlier the airport used to get a case once in three or four days. But now one to six cases are being reported daily from the airport.
He said this is not a good thing and added that the state health department is prepared to deal with any threat.
Health department officials also said that at least 18 patients are undergoing treatment for COVID-19 in various hospitals of the state.
The health department said that, of the 112 patients who tested positive, Chennai reported 34 new cases.
