Revolutionary Warrior Tantya Bhil (Tantya Mama)

Tantya Bhil (Tantya Mama). Tantya Bhil (Tantya Mama) was born on 4 December 1889 in a Bhil family at Birda village in West Nimar district of Madhya Pradesh. His father’s name was Bhavsingh and mother’s name was Jeevani. Tantya Mama is known as the Indian “Robin Hood”.

At the age of only 25, Tantya Bhil (Tantya Mama) had become a revolutionary. He resolved to end the British sycophants and took the first action in Pokhar village of Nimar. The British arrested Tantya, Bijhunia and Dipiya by deceit and put them in jail.

From there Tantya Bhil (Tantya Mama) escaped along with his companions and then fought against the British by forming small groups of tribal people and helping the poor and helpless people. Wherever the daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law of any poor tribal Bhil, Bhilala and other society were forced, he used to reach there immediately to save their shame and punished the oppressors.

Due to this the mothers and sisters were convinced that if there would be any atrocities on us, Tantya would definitely come to save us. They considered Tantya as their brother, a brother who helps them in every trouble.

He came to be known as Tantya Bhil and Tantya Mama.

For this reason, Tantya came to be known as Tantya Bhil and Tantya Mama in the area. Tantya is everyone’s uncle, he protects everyone, he is a god, protects us all the time. He had become everyone’s deity. That’s why even today Nimad Tantya Bhil (Tantya Mama) is worshiped in the name of Lokdevta.

The influence of Tantya Bhil (Tantya Mama) is so deep on the psyche of the tribal society that today every Bhil tribal society’s brother feels proud to call himself maternal uncle. They take pride that we are the descendants of Tantya Mama.
