TEC and IIIT-Delhi collaborate to enhance telecom R&D and standards

The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) has announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT Delhi) to engage in collaborative research, studies, and technical contributions in advanced telecommunications and global standardisation efforts. The partnership is designed to create standards and testing frameworks tailored to India, foster joint research in telecom and related ICT, investigate future technologies such as 6G, optical communication, and non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), and increase India’s involvement in ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union–Telecommunication Standardisation Sector) study groups via National Working Groups. The collaboration will cover various advanced technology areas, including AI-driven solutions in telecommunications for network optimisation, anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, intelligent traffic management, and policy enforcement.

The entities will also collaborate on research and standardisation for emerging wireless technologies like 5G, 6G, millimetre wave (mmWave), massive MIMO (mMIMO), and heterogeneous networks. Furthermore, the focus will extend to joint research in Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualisation (NFV) to enhance next-generation network structures. They will also engage in standardisation efforts for Free Space Optical Communication and Li-Fi technologies, aiming to provide high-speed, low-latency, secure optical wireless connectivity for backhaul and access, especially in rural and defence applications. This partnership is intended to accelerate indigenous research and development while boosting India’s role in global standardisation frameworks by enhancing contributions to organisations like ITU and 3GPP.
