Kolkata, April 19 (). A coronavirus positive senior citizen died at a government hospital in Kolkata, taking the death toll from the virus to three in West Bengal in 24 days.
According to sources in the state health department, Mantu Ram Bor (79) was admitted to the State Infectious Diseases (ID) Hospital in North Kolkata for a long time. He had several other ailments and died on Tuesday.
The first Covid-related death in 2023 was recorded on March 25, when Gobindo Kundu (72), a resident of Nadia district, succumbed. This death was reported after a gap of three months.
The second death occurred on April 13 when Bhaskar Das (76), a resident of Regent Park area of Kolkata, died at a private hospital in the city.
On Tuesday evening, the West Bengal Health Department issued an advisory asking people to make maximum use of facemasks in public places.
The advisory also advised people to remain in home-isolation for at least a week if they test positive for COVID-19. The advisory states, if your symptoms increase or you start feeling shortness of breath, immediately report to the hospital or doctor.
If a young child or a high-risk individual tests positive for COVID-19, the concerned individual should be taken to a hospital or doctor without delay.
