Tigress fitted with radio collar for the first time in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, 30 April (). Tiger conservation efforts are going on in Chhattisgarh. In this sequence, the rescued female tigress from Surajpur forest division has been released in Achanakmar Tiger Reserve. This tigress has been fitted with a radio collar. This is the first time in the state that a tiger has been fitted with this radio collar.

Forest and Climate Change Department in the state is continuously working for the development of forests including conservation of wildlife in the state. In this episode, the rescued tigress from Surajpur forest division, after being completely healthy, has been released in a suitable habitat of Achanakmar Tiger Reserve under the established standard operating procedure of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.

It may be noted that according to the intention of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, on the instructions of Forest Minister Mohammad Akbar, special efforts are on to increase the population of tigers in Achanakmar Tiger Reserve.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Sudhir Kumar Agarwal said that the process of bringing two female and one male tiger from the tiger reserves of the adjacent states of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra is going on in Achanakmar Tiger Reserve. Meanwhile, the release of rescued female tigress from Surajpur forest division in Achanakmar Tiger Reserve is a happy coincidence. As per standard operating procedure, the tigress was fitted with a radio collar by a team of wildlife doctors and after that the female tigress was successfully released into the proper habitat.

After being released in the natural habitat, a suitable monitoring system has been established to trace the movement of the tigress for the next one month. For this, the field staff has been specially trained in Panna Tiger Reserve. A team of two research scholars and wildlife doctors from the Wildlife Institute of India has also been specially deployed. With the establishment of this female tigress in Achanakmar, the department is hopeful of increasing the number of tigers in Achanakmar.
