Hyderabad, April 20 (). Sunita Reddy, her father and former Andhra Pradesh minister Y.S. Cuddapah MP Avinash Reddy has approached the Supreme Court against the Telangana High Court’s interim order staying the arrest by the CBI in connection with the murder of Vivekananda Reddy.
Sunitha Reddy has filed a petition in the apex court challenging the Telangana High Court’s order to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) not to arrest Avinash Reddy till April 25.
The plea is likely to come up for hearing on Thursday.
Sunitha Reddy had made herself a party to the anticipatory bail plea filed by Avinash Reddy in the High Court. He had opposed the anticipatory bail of Avinash, who was summoned by the CBI for further questioning in the case.
The High Court, in its interim order on April 18, directed the CBI not to arrest Avinash Reddy till April 25. It asked the MP to appear before the CBI daily till April 25, when the court would pass a final order on his plea.
Both Avinash Reddy and Sunita Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan is Mohan Reddy’s cousin.
Jagan Mohan Reddy’s father and former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s brother Vivekananda Reddy was murdered at his Pulivendula residence on 15 March 2019, a few days before the elections.
The 68-year-old former state minister and ex-MP was alone at his house when unknown people barged into his house and killed him.
The CBI took over the investigation in 2020 on the direction of the Andhra Pradesh High Court while hearing a petition by Sunita Reddy raising suspicion on some relatives.
The Supreme Court had transferred the case to Hyderabad in November last year after Sunitha Reddy raised doubts about the fair trial and investigation in Andhra Pradesh.
The Supreme Court has set April 30 as the deadline for the CBI to complete its probe. The agency intensified the probe with the recent arrest of Avinash Reddy’s father Bhaskar Reddy and his henchman Udaya Kumar Reddy.
Meanwhile, the Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the CBI to record audio and video interrogation of Bhaskara Reddy and Udaya Kumar Reddy. The court asked the agency to follow the guidelines laid down for custodial interrogation.
The CBI on Wednesday took both the accused into custody for six days.
