The social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk and formerly known as Twitter, has launched a long-awaited feature enabling cross-platform draft syncing. This update allows users to start composing a post on the X iOS app and seamlessly continue editing or publishing it on the web, addressing a significant gap in the user experience. Nikita Bier, the Head of Product at X, announced the feature’s rollout in a post, acknowledging the lengthy wait from users. Until now, users who initiated drafts on mobile devices were unable to access them on other platforms, which was particularly inconvenient for journalists, creators, and regular users who frequently switch between mobile and desktop.
The new feature significantly enhances X’s flexibility and user-friendliness, facilitating a smoother workflow across devices. Users can now begin drafting thoughts or announcements on their iPhones and later finish on a laptop or desktop. This update aims to improve efficiency for both professionals and casual users who rely on X for real-time communication. Interestingly, the feature was noticed on X Lite a week prior to its official launch, leading to speculation about its imminent release. The functionality is now accessible to all users on both iOS and web versions of X. However, the initial rollout does have some limitations; it does not yet support media attachments such as images or videos.
Bier noted that, as with many newly introduced features, minor bugs may appear in the early stages. He expressed a desire to release the feature promptly in response to user feedback, even if it meant addressing minor issues later. For Android users, the wait continues, though Bier confirmed that draft syncing is in development and will be available once the redesign of the Android app is completed. He stated that it would be available soon.
The introduction of this feature aligns with X’s broader strategy to enhance platform usability and attract ‘power users.’ Bier has previously indicated that a series of smaller, impactful upgrades are in the works to boost productivity and convenience for those who actively use X for communication and content creation. After nearly ten years of anticipation, X’s cross-platform draft syncing finally delivers one of the most sought-after updates, underscoring the platform’s commitment to evolving into a more integrated and user-focused social experience.
