On October 15, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath distributed gas cylinder refill subsidies at Lok Bhavan, describing it as a Diwali gift for underprivileged families. He emphasized that the festival season represents a collective celebration and reaffirmed the state government’s 2021 decision to offer free LPG refills to Ujjwala beneficiaries during Holi and Diwali, which this year benefits 1.86 crore families. CM Yogi noted that every festival in the past eight years, including Holi, Diwali, Eid, Christmas, and Guru Parva, has been celebrated peacefully and in harmony. He warned that the government does not yield to rioters, stating that anyone trying to disrupt the festivities will face legal consequences.
Yogi highlighted the Central government’s welfare initiatives, noting that for the first time since independence, benefits have reached the poor without discrimination under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He remarked that prior to 2014, acquiring a gas connection was a challenge, but now over 11 crore poor families, including 1.86 crore in Uttar Pradesh, have received free LPG connections through the Ujjwala Yojana, enhancing dignity and health for women who previously relied on wood or coal for cooking. The Chief Minister criticized previous administrations, claiming that before 2017, development programs were compromised by nepotism and violence disrupted celebrations. He asserted that under the current government, Uttar Pradesh is united as one family, promoting inclusivity and development for all.
He issued a strong warning about the safety of women, emphasizing a commitment to security for every citizen. CM Yogi called for a Swadeshi Diwali, urging people to support local artisans and craftspeople by purchasing indigenous products. He stated that the prosperity of the nation is tied to the success of its local workers. He concluded by quoting Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and Acharya Shankaracharya, emphasizing that compassion for the poor is essential to the true spirit of Diwali. The event was attended by various public representatives and officials, and the CM transferred subsidies to several women beneficiaries.
