Lucknow, April 16 (). Projects worth more than Rs 10 thousand crore will be commissioned in the next few months in 10 smart cities of Uttar Pradesh. The projects are to be completed by June.
According to an official spokesperson, out of 542 infrastructure projects worth Rs 10,124 crore sponsored by the central and state governments, 343 have been commissioned and an amount of Rs 4,757 crore has been finished.
Senior government officials deputed to the Chief Minister’s Office have directed the department to expeditiously complete the remaining 199 projects.
The Integrated Command and Control Center and Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) spread across Lucknow, Agra, Bareilly, Varanasi, Moradabad, Prayagraj, Saharanpur, Aligarh, Kanpur and Jhansi will also become operational within a few months.
It was found that Agra and Varanasi have the highest number of completed projects.
These two cities are also the cleanest, said a senior government official.
Smart cities aim to improve water, electricity supply, strengthen sewerage system, solid waste management, public transport system, parking facilities, streetlights, digitization etc.
The Yogi Adityanath government has also launched a cloud-based smart city digital monitoring system with a budget of Rs 28 crore, through which progress in 10 cities will be monitored.
Apart from the 10 cities covered under the Smart City Mission, the state government has also decided to set up ITMS in seven more cities including Ayodhya, Firozabad, Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad, Mathura-Vrindavan, Meerut and Shahjahanpur.
