Raigarh, April 15 (). At least 12 passengers were killed and 28 others injured when a private bus overturned in a gorge on the Mumbai-Pune highway on Saturday.
An official said that the accident took place around 4 am near Borghat, where accidents often happen. According to reports, the bus fell at least 50 meters into a drain.
Although there was very little traffic on the highway when the accident took place, some people reached the accident site. They informed the Raigad police, fire brigade and local trackers who reached the spot.
Local people said that the rescue work was started immediately. The climbers descended down with the help of a rope. Around 40-45 people including the bus driver were traveling in the bus.
According to the district administration, the injured were taken to Khopali Civil Hospital and Jakotia Hospital and private MGM Hospital in Navi Mumbai for treatment.
A Raigad police official said most of the passengers were members of the Baji Prabhu Music Group, Goregaon. He was returning after attending a program in Pune on Friday.
