Panaji, May 4 (). The two-day meeting of foreign ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members began here on Thursday, with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar meeting his counterparts.
Jaishankar also met SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming and expressed his appreciation of his support for India’s SCO chairmanship and said it was motivated by the commitment to secure the SCO.
They identified key focus areas including startups, traditional medicine, youth empowerment, Buddhist heritage and science and technology. Jaishankar also held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov and said a comprehensive review of bilateral, global and multilateral cooperation was discussed during the meeting.
They also appreciated Russia’s support for India’s SCO chairmanship and discussed issues related to G20 and BRICS. After meeting with his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang, Jaishankar said bilateral relations were discussed in detail with the State Councillor.
The focus is on resolving outstanding issues and ensuring peace in the border areas, he tweeted. Also discussed SCO, G20 and BRICS. He welcomed his Uzbekistani counterpart Bakhtior Saidov on his first visit to India. Jaishankar said, appreciated Uzbekistan’s strong support for India’s SCO chairmanship. Also recognized our long-standing multilateral cooperation. I am confident that our bilateral partnership will continue to grow in various fields.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has also reached Goa for the meeting. Established on June 15, 2001 in Shanghai, the SCO originally consisted of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Later India and Pakistan became its members.
