New Delhi, April 28 (). As many as 754 Indian nationals were evacuated and brought back home from violence-hit Sudan on Friday under Operation Kaveri by the government.
392 people arrived in New Delhi in a C-17 Indian Air Force aircraft, another batch of 362 Indians were brought to Bengaluru. With this, the total number of Indians brought back from the crisis-hit African country now stands at 1,360, according to official data.
The people have been repatriated from the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah, where India has set up a transit camp for the evacuees. The first batch of 360 people was brought to New Delhi on April 26 in a commercial flight. The second batch of 246 people reached Mumbai on April 27 in a C-17 Globemaster.
Under Operation Kaveri, India is bringing its citizens from Khartoum and other troubled areas to Port Sudan by buses. From there they are being taken to Jeddah and brought back to India from the Saudi Arabian city.
India has set up separate control rooms in Jeddah and Port Sudan, while the Indian Embassy in Khartoum is coordinating with them and the Ministry of External Affairs.
