The beloved ‘80s Stars Reunion’, a cherished annual event among prominent figures of the South Indian film industry, took place in Chennai on October 4, 2025, marking a heartfelt return after a three-year hiatus. Initially scheduled for the previous year, the reunion was postponed due to the severe floods in Chennai. This year’s event was reorganized not as a grand celebration, but as a close and meaningful gathering focused on friendship, unity, and solidarity in light of recent events impacting the state. At the collective request of the actors, Rajkumar Sethupathy and Sripriya kindly hosted the reunion at their residence instead of the usual five-star venue.
The evening was thoughtfully curated by Lissy Lakshmi, Poornima Bhagyaraj, Khushbu Sundar, and Suhasini Maniratnam. This choice reflected a spirit of simplicity and intimacy that characterizes the bond among these artists who shared the screen and stage during the vibrant decade of the 1980s. A total of 31 actors attended the reunion, traveling from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and even from the Hindi film industry. The evening was filled with warmth, reflection, and camaraderie, serving as a reminder that despite the passage of time, the friendships formed in the 80s remain strong. The actors exchanged memories, ideas, and thoughts on cinema and life, celebrating the diversity that connects them across borders and languages.
As dawn approached, each guest departed for their homes and workplaces, carrying with them a sense of togetherness and the renewed strength of enduring friendship. “It wasn’t a night of celebration this time,” remarked one organizer, Suhasini Maniratnam. “It was a quiet gathering of friends who have known each other for decades — to express unity, empathy, and gratitude for the bonds that have transcended fame and time,” added Lissy Lakshmi. The ‘80s Stars Reunion’ remains a symbol of enduring friendship, unity in diversity, and the timeless essence of Indian cinema.
