Panaji, March 31 (). Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the police is monitoring the activities of the banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) and action will be taken against those supporting them.
CM Sawant said this while replying to a calling attention question by BJP MLA Praveen Arlekar about the steps taken by the government to check and stop the activities of PFI.
The CM said that even before the organization was declared banned, the Goa Police had registered cases against the organization for holding an unlawful assembly. In this connection, two cases under relevant sections of IPC have been registered at Fatorda police station. In both the cases, 18 people have been arrested.
He said that the former members of the banned organization are being closely monitored and action will be taken against those who support PFI. Vasco BJP MLA Krishna Salkar while speaking on the calling attention said that the activities of PFI have spread everywhere.
He further said that we need to take action against them. They openly display the flags of other countries along with their banners. We come to know about their activities only when central agencies come to Goa and take action against them. They are doing anti-national activities. There should be an inquiry and if they have offices here, they should be closed.
Leader of the opposition Yuri Alemao said that action should be taken against organizations that spread hatred. Alemao said that Goa is known as the land of communal harmony. It is necessary to maintain peace and harmony. Our leader Rahul Gandhi started Bharat Jodo Yatra to spread the message of peace and harmony and unite the country.
The government should take action against all such organizations which spread hatred and do divisive politics.
