Experts assured: The risk of heart attack is increasing due to corona, not due to vaccine

New Delhi, April 9 (). The cases of heart attacks are on the rise in the country, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. While some people blame vaccinations for increasing heart problems, health experts have dismissed such fears, saying that there is no evidence that vaccinations can cause heart attacks.

According to the Global Burden of Disease, almost a quarter (24.8 percent) of deaths in India are due to cardiovascular diseases.

In recent times, it has been seen that many young celebrities, artists, athletes and sportspersons – who are generally fit and have no history of heart disease – have suffered heart attacks and some of them have even died.

Dr Anurag Agarwal, Dean of Biosciences and Health Research at Ashoka University’s Trivedi School of Biosciences, told , “The rise in heart attack cases can be best explained by the fact that almost everyone had had Covid, some So many times to people.

Dr. Vivekananda Jha, Executive Director, George Institute India, said, there is no evidence that heart attacks have any relation with the Kovid vaccine. The risk of cardiovascular complications, including heart attack, is increased in individuals who have been severely ill with COVID-19.

There is evidence from several studies that COVID infection has a role in increasing heart attacks. Research has shown that covid has the potential to uncover symptoms of hidden heart diseases in people who were previously undiagnosed.

A study by the British Heart Foundation has found that Kovid causes inflammation in the heart and kidneys. In addition, it also increases the inflammation generated by the body’s defense system.

A study published in Cardiovascular Research, a journal of the European Society of Cardiology, found that COVID is associated with an increased risk of heart disease and death in the short term and long term. A study of nearly 160,000 people earlier this year found that Covid patients were 81 times more likely to die in the first three weeks of infection and five times up to 18 months after infection, compared to uninfected individuals. stays longer

According to a study published in the journal Nature Medicine last year, even a mild illness of Covid can increase the risk of cardiovascular problems in an infected person for at least a year.

The researchers found that rates of several diseases, such as heart failure and stroke, were significantly higher in people who recovered from COVID than in people who had not been infected with COVID.

However, some people have also raised concerns about Covid vaccines. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US), evidence from several surveillance systems in the US and around the world has linked mRNA to COVID-19 vaccines (eg, Moderna and Pfizer Biotech’s vaccines) and myocarditis (inflammation in the heart muscle) and support a causal relationship between pericarditis (inflammation of the outer surface of the heart).

Media reports also say that the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, given in India as CoviShield, has been linked to an increased tendency to block arteries or veins.

Recently, eminent British-Indian cardiologist Dr. Aseem Malhotra said that it was worse in terms of cardiovascular effects, heart attacks and strokes.

Dr Amit Prasad, Associate Professor, School of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Mandi, said, “The increase in heart attacks is not directly linked to the Covid vaccine, but mainly to Covid infection as there are many things that Covid disease can do with the cardiovascular system. There are also reports of increased viscosity in the blood of Kovid infected people.

Agarwal said, even before vaccination was introduced, the association between Covid and future heart attacks could be seen. This observation is from 2020 data. Thus clearly shows that the increased risk of heart attacks started before vaccination was introduced.

Meanwhile, in the wake of rising heart attacks, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had earlier this week said that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has launched a research on the sudden rise in cardiovascular diseases post COVID-19. The results are expected in the next two months.
