New Delhi, April 19 (). A court here has convicted a father-son duo for rioting and arson in a 2020 North-East Delhi riots case, saying the prosecution has proved the charges against them beyond reasonable doubt.

The case against Mithun Singh and his son Johnny Kumar was being heard by Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Pulastya Pramachala.

The two were accused of being part of a riotous mob that torched several properties at Lane No. 4 in Khajuri Khas on February 25, 2020.

“I think it has been proved beyond doubt against both the accused that they were part of the mob which burnt the property (complainant Shabana Khatoon),” the judge said. Thus, he was booked under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc.) and section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code. Every member convicted of an offense committed in prosecution of the common object)

The court posted the matter for filing of the affidavit on April 19, after which the proceedings on sentencing would begin.

According to ASJ Pramachala, who took note of the statements of various public witnesses, an unlawful assembly was established with the common goal of causing damage to properties of a specific community.

According to the judge, the riotous mob also committed acts of vandalism and arson.
