Lucknow, 30 April (). After Bihar, now the Uttar Pradesh IAS Association, in 1994, the then District Magistrate of Gopalganj G. Has opposed the release of Anand Mohan, convicted of killing Krishnayya. The association has appealed to the Bihar government to reconsider the decision at the earliest.
In a statement released on Twitter, the association said, “We strongly appeal to the state government of Bihar to reconsider its decision at the earliest in the interest of the nation.”
The Bihar government had on April 24 notified the release of 27 prisoners, including former MP Anand Mohan Singh, who was released from jail last Thursday.
The statement said, Uttar Pradesh IAS Association was organized by the Bihar state government late G. Krishnaiah, IAS, expresses strong objection to the decision to release the culprits of the brutal murder of former DM Gopalganj.
The action of the state government in releasing the killer of such an outstanding officer is appalling, the association said without naming any of the released prisoners. Such action of the government will adversely affect the morale of the IAS officers.
Some former IAS officers have also condemned the action of the Bihar government.
Former IAS officer Vijay Shankar Pandey, who retired as secretary to the central government, said, “It is very unfortunate and the Chief Minister of Bihar should reconsider the decision.”
In a tweet, former Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prakash Singh said, “All officers of All India Services of Bihar cadre should protest against the action of the state government in a peaceful and democratic manner.”
Significantly, on December 5, 1994, during the last rites of Chhotan Shukla, a criminal who was killed in a police encounter in Muzaffarpur, Krishnaya was beaten to death by a mob led by Anand Mohan.
Anand Mohan Singh was sentenced to death by the trial court in 2007. A year later, the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment by the Patna High Court.
He was released from Saharsa Jail in Bihar on Thursday.
