Shahjahanpur (Uttar Pradesh), May 15 (). A shocking incident has come to light in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. In this, a 31-year-old woman was instigated by her brother to set herself on fire. As soon as the young woman Saroj Yadav set herself ablaze by pouring petrol, her brother Sanjeev Yadav instead of saving her kept making videos and later shared it on social media. This incident was also captured in CCTV. The girl has been seriously burnt and her condition is said to be critical.
According to the locals, the victim Saroj took this extreme step allegedly on the advice of her brother. His neighbor Pawan Gupta’s wife Pratiksha was recently elected corporator.
The victim alleged that her neighbor Pawan had threatened her. According to the victim, Pawan was demonstrating his power when his wife was elected councillor.
On Sunday, the victim’s mother Urmila had an argument with Pawan, after which Pawan informed the police about the altercation.
Urmila said, when the police took me and my husband to the police station, my daughter got upset and tried to kill herself.
Shahjahanpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) S. Anand said, the doctors said that the condition of the victim is critical. We found that petrol had been drained from the bike. We have also recovered the CCTV footage and it appears that the victim’s brother was pressurizing his sister to take the extreme step. We are also probing the role of Pawan Gupta in the incident.
A senior police officer said that the brother might have tried to use his sister to implicate the other side in the case along with his cousins.
We are probing all aspects of the matter and action will be taken after registering a complaint, the official said.
The incident took place in Reti Colony of the city under RC Mission police station area, where Sunderlal, the father of five children, lives with Urmila and three children, including daughter Saroj.
Sunderlal does a part time job in the city. His two other daughters are married.
