Hyderabad, May 22 (). A delivery agent jumped from the third floor of a building in Hyderabad to save himself from a dog attack.

The incident took place on Sunday in Panchavati Colony of Manikonda, Hyderabad.

Police said a Labrador retriever started barking and rushed towards the delivery agent Mohammad Ilyas (27). Elias works for Amazon.

Out of fear, he jumped from the third floor. He has multiple fractures in his leg. He has been admitted to the hospital, where his condition is said to be out of danger. Raidurgam police recorded the statement of Iliyas.

Police on Monday also registered a case against the flat owner under IPC section 289 (negligent act in relation to animals).

Meanwhile, Shaik Salahuddin, president of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU), demanded that the dog’s owner bear the cost of the delivery agent’s treatment.

This is the second such incident in Hyderabad in four months.

In January too, a 23-year-old food delivery boy had died in a similar incident. Mohd Rizwan (23), who works for Swiggy, went to an apartment building in Banjara Hills. He jumped from the third floor of a building to avoid being attacked by a pet dog. He had serious injuries and died four days later in hospital.

Meanwhile, the TGPWU has appealed to dog owners to keep their pet dogs leashed when the delivery agents come to deliver their orders.

The union also demanded that Amazon pay wages to Ilyas at Rs 1,000 per day during his treatment, after he was injured in the line of duty.

Salahuddin, Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao and urged Greater Hyderabad Mayor Vijayalakshmi Gadwal to take action against dog owners in such cases.
