New Delhi, May 25 (). Three people have been arrested for duping a person of Rs 4 lakh by selling them fake US dollars in Delhi. An officer gave this information.
The arrested accused have been identified as 42-year-old Arun Kumar, 32-year-old Zakir Shaikh and 50-year-old Shamal. Arun is a resident of Vishwas Nagar, Sheikh and Shamal.
According to the police, an incident of cheating was registered at Dabri police station on April 20. The complainant had stated in his complaint that he was contacted by a person named Raju. Raju tricks him into buying dollars worth Rs 20 lakh for just Rs 4 lakh.
Dwarka DCP M Harshvardhan said the complainant fell for his trap and gave Rs four lakh to Raju. Raju hands him a bundle of fake dollars and flees from the spot. During the investigation, the police team also checked the CCTV footage of the spot as well as nearby places.
The DCP said that as per the analysis of CCTV footage, it had emerged that a team of 5-6 people were found moving suspiciously near the spot.
The police team visited the route through which the accused had gone on the basis of CCTV footage. The DCP said, the team chased the suspects on two bikes on those suspected routes. On the basis of technical and manual surveillance, it was found that the mobile phone of the accused was continuously in Jahangirpuri area of Delhi.
However, based on specific inputs, Zakir Shaikh and Shamal were arrested near Indralok Metro Station and a counterfeit bundle of dollars was recovered from their possession.
The DCP said that further on his behest another accused Arun was also arrested from his house. A counterfeit bundle of dollars was also recovered from Arun’s possession.
During interrogation, all the accused disclosed that they along with Rana, Ibrahim and Cash used to cheat people by giving them fake US Dollars with the lure of huge profits.
The DCP said that they also said that they use stolen mobile phones to make calls to the victims to avoid police surveillance. Several objectionable videos and photographs were recovered from the mobile phones of the accused persons.
