New Delhi, May 26 (). Nearly three out of five Indians are of the opinion that strong decisions have been taken in the last nine years of the Narendra Modi government.

This was revealed during an all India survey conducted by CVoter on the occasion of completion of nine years of Modi government. Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014. Under his leadership, the BJP won an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha elections with 282 seats.

One of his campaign placards in that election promised that his government would not be as weak as that of its predecessor, Dr. Manmohan Singh. Surprisingly, majority of the voters who support UPA and oppose Modi also hold the same opinion.

During the survey, 48 per cent UPA supporters also believed that the Modi regime has taken tough decisions. The number of Modi supporters who think like this is very high. Overall, three out of every four Indians hold the same opinion. Modi’s supporters often boast that he has always taken tough decisions, even if they were politically risky. Many describe demonetisation as one such political risk taken by Modi.

The CVoter survey also reveals other important differences. For example, 53 per cent of those aged 18 to 24 feel that they have made tough decisions, as do 74 per cent of those aged 35 to 44. 45 percent of Scheduled Caste (Dalit) people feel that Modi has taken tough decisions while 70 percent of upper caste Hindus believe so.

Analysts cite the abrogation of Article 370 that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir as a powerful example of this.
