Srinagar, May 28 (). An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Jammu and Kashmir, however no casualties or damage to property were reported from anywhere.
Residents of Srinagar city felt tremors and some came out of their homes in panic.
An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Jammu and Kashmir at 11.19 am at latitude 36.54 degree north and longitude 71.13 degree east, official sources said.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region and its depth was 220 kilometers inside the earth.
Earthquakes have wreaked havoc in Kashmir in the past. The region is seismically highly sensitive.
On October 8, 2005, an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale struck both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, killing over 48,000 people.
