Chandigarh, June 4 (). A mahapanchayat of only wrestlers will be announced in three-four days to express solidarity with the wrestlers protesting against WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment.
Top wrestlers including Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia have been protesting since April 23 demanding action against Brij Bhushan.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia said in the mahapanchayat held at Mundlana, Sonipat, Haryana on Sunday, when we go among the public, we get new energy. Public cooperation is our strength. Today our daughters (wrestlers) are mentally broken. You guys tried to reach on 28th May. (at our protest site) But the police stopped you. We cannot win in isolation and we appeal to all organizations to unite. We will hold a mahapanchayat and take a major decision in it. You will be informed about the place and time of the mahapanchayat of wrestlers in three-four days.
Apart from Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Gurnam Singh Chadhuni, former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik and other prominent people participated in the panchayat held on Sunday.
Earlier, Malik had visited Jantar Mantar in Delhi and interacted with wrestlers on 26 April. There is a need to extend support, as this fight is not just hers, it is for all the women of our country, she said.
Farmers and representatives of Khap Panchayats from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh gathered in large numbers in Sonepat to express solidarity and send a message to the BJP government at the Center to arrest Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Two days ago, farmers and representatives of khap panchayats (community courts) gave an ultimatum to the BJP government at the Center to arrest Singh or prepare for a bigger protest by June 9.
