New Delhi, June 5 (). The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has recovered about 10 kg of gold worth Rs 6.2 crore in two separate seizures. An official said on Sunday that four people have also been arrested in this connection.
The first case involved three air passengers who were caught with 8 kg of gold at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, an official said.
The passengers reached Mumbai airport from Sharjah by Air India Express flight, the official said. He was stopped on the basis of profiling. During the investigation, the officials recovered eight foreign-marked gold bars, weighing eight kilograms, worth Rs 4.94 crore, which were hidden around the waist inside his clothes. Later his associate was also caught.
In another case, 2 kg gold was recovered from an Indian national who reached Mumbai airport from Dubai.
Gold worth Rs 1.23 crore was recovered from the person, the official said.
The second seizure involves a well-educated person who was directly involved in planning and executing the gold smuggling, the official said.
