New Delhi: AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal questioned whether leaders who bring “corrupt” individuals into their parties and promote them to positions of power should resign. This statement was made in response to a post from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which highlighted Shah’s comments on controversial bills aiming to prevent prime ministers, chief ministers, and ministers from holding office if incarcerated for 30 days or more. Shah’s remarks raised concerns about the suitability of officials accused of corruption or serious crimes serving in government while in jail.

Kejriwal, in a post on X in Hindi, asked, “If someone includes individuals guilty of serious crimes in their political party, clears their cases, and appoints them as ministers or chief ministers, should that minister or prime minister also step down? How long should such a person be imprisoned? If someone is wrongly accused and imprisoned but later exonerated, how many years in jail should the minister responsible for the false accusation face?” AAP has repeatedly accused the BJP of welcoming leaders with criminal backgrounds into their ranks, often labeling the BJP as a “washing machine”. Additionally, AAP claims that its leaders, including Kejriwal, have been unjustly arrested by central investigative agencies at the direction of the BJP-led federal government.
