SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu’s SSMB29 is poised to redefine Indian cinema with its stunning visuals and global ambition. The film will be shot primarily in Kenya, particularly in the Masai Mara and Naivasha, where over 95% of the African sequences will take place. The Kenyan government has praised Rajamouli as a ‘visionary director and global storyteller’ following his recent meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, where they confirmed Kenya as the main filming location.
The minister highlighted that Rajamouli’s team of 120 crew members selected Kenya after an extensive scouting tour of East Africa, choosing the country for its breathtaking landscapes, including the vast plains of the Masai Mara and the picturesque Naivasha, which are integral to what is anticipated to be the largest film production in Asia. Scheduled for release in more than 120 countries, SSMB29 aims to reach over a billion viewers globally. This ambitious release strategy positions it to surpass Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which was released in over 100 countries. Reports suggest the film may be a two-part saga, although this has yet to be confirmed by Rajamouli’s team.
Starring Mahesh Babu in an adventurous role, alongside global star Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, SSMB29 boasts music by Oscar-winner M.M. Keeravani, enhancing its international allure. With a worldwide-first look planned for November 2025, SSMB29 is not just a film; it represents a significant milestone for Indian cinema, aiming to explore new horizons.
